A jigger dyes woven fabric in open (full) width by winding it back and forth between two main rollers through a dye trough. It dyes flat and crease-free at a low liquor ratio.

Woven fabrics — poplin, voile, satin, suiting, shirting, sheeting and similar — in cotton, viscose, polyester, nylon and blends. Jiggers apply lengthwise tension, so they suit wovens better than knits or stretch fabrics.

A low material-to-liquor ratio, commonly 1:3 to 1:5, which saves water, dye, chemicals and steam versus rope-form machines.

Atmospheric jiggers run up to about 98 °C.
